Am I a Good Candidate for Male Breast Reduction?

Gynecomastia surgery can be done for both aesthetic and medical purposes, with some cases covered by your health insurance. You may want to consider male breast reduction if you’d like to enhance your appearance and boost your self-confidence, or you’re experiencing discomfort and pain. The skilled surgeons at Longwood Plastic Surgery have successfully treated the mildest to most extreme cases of gynecomastia.

As with any surgery, the ideal candidate for breast reduction is an otherwise healthy adult with realistic expectations. Non-smokers typically respond best to these procedures. Your LPS surgeon will assess your concerns and discuss the best route to take for your individual concerns at the time of your confidential consultation.

FAQ’s

Many men see an immediate improvement to the chest area after breast reduction. You may experience some post-surgical swelling that can initially hide the final results of your procedure. This swelling typically subsides within 2 weeks revealing a more contoured physique. Gynecomastia surgery is typically long-lasting and can provide significant lifelong results for the right candidate.

Recovery following gynecomastia surgery lasts about 2-4 weeks. Our patients are given a compression garment prior to leaving the operating room to reduce swelling. Drains are sometimes used to draw off excess fluid and are removed a week or two following surgery. We also ask that you avoid heavy lifting (greater than 20 lbs) for 4-6 weeks. Most patients stay off work or on a limited schedule for about a week depending on their job description.
