Reconstructive Nose Surgery

Has Your Nose Changed its Shape Post-Injury? Do You Have Breathing Problems After a Trauma or Injury to the Nose?

Nasal surgery encompasses both aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. Reconstructive procedures are used to restore normal shape and function including the correction of birth defects or breathing problems. With over 40 years of combined experience, the board-certified surgeons at LPS have already helped many men and women restore optimal function after trauma or cancer surgery. We’re here to help you too!

How Does Reconstructive Nose Surgery Work?

Rhinoplasty, or surgery to reshape and repair the nose, is commonly performed at Longwood Plastic Surgery. Rhinoplasty can reduce or increase the size of your nose, change the shape of the tip or the bridge, narrow the span of the nostrils, or change the angle between your nose and your upper lip. It may also correct a birth defect or injury or help relieve some breathing problems or deformities acquired from trauma. In most cases, functional rhinoplasties are done through an advanced closed incision or minimally open technique to minimize pain, scarring, and downtime.

Most insurance policies don’t cover purely cosmetic or aesthetic surgery; however, if the procedure is performed for reconstructive purposes, to correct a breathing problem or a marked deformity, the procedure may be covered. Our team will work with your insurer to inquire about pre-authorization in select cases that are deemed reconstructive in nature.

Am I a Good Candidate for Reconstructive Nasal Surgery?

The ideal candidate for nasal surgery is one who has had trauma or prior surgery on the nose leaving them with shape and functional abnormalities. Functional rhinoplasty surgery can often correct problems related to a deviated nasal septum and improve the shape and contour of the nose. Like all procedures at LPS, rhinoplasties are highly customized based on your unique needs.

Rhinoplasty patients should be in otherwise good general health and have realistic expectations about what the procedure can do for them. The skilled surgeons at Longwood Plastic Surgery will discuss every aspect of the procedure so you can make an informed decision about what’s right for you.

Reconstructive Nose Surgery

FAQ’s

Most patients can see significant improvement following deviated nasal septum correction. Breathing that was previously obstructed or blocked will become much easier. Many men and women report immediate results right away. However, it can take several weeks to several months to see the full effects of your procedure due to post-surgical swelling. Reconstructive nose surgery is typically long-lasting unless another trauma or injury occurs.

Whenever possible, our skilled surgeons use a specialized technique where all incisions are made solely inside the nostrils. Because there are no external cuts or scars, social downtime is typically minimal. While some patients may have 1-2 weeks worth of downtime, another patient may feel comfortable returning to their normal routine in just 5-6 days. Strenuous activities should be postponed for a minimum of 2-weeks or otherwise stated by your surgeon.

At LPS, no two procedures are exactly alike. A customized post-operative recovery plan will be created based on your individual surgery. Following the detailed instructions provided by your surgeon can facilitate a smooth and easy healing process.
