Address Excess Skin & Fat with an Upper Arm Lift at LPS!
With age, upper arm skin can become loose and flabby. Patients who have had massive weight loss are often left with loose, hanging skin. This has been referred to as “bat wings.” People with this issue may feel self-conscious about the way that their upper arms look and may feel uncomfortable in short sleeves. At times, this excess skin may rub together causing skin irritation and rashes. The good news is, Longwood Plastic Surgery is here to help!
How Does An Upper Arm Lift Work?
An arm lift, also known as brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure to remove loose skin and excess fat deposits in the upper arm. There are several different types of incisions that may be used for an upper arm lift and your plastic surgeon will discuss which incision would be right for you. Your surgeon will always choose the least invasive treatment option available to achieve your desired results with minimal pain, scarring, or downtime.
Brachioplasty is typically done in our fully accredited in-office surgical suite on an outpatient basis. Patients with certain medical concerns may have their procedure done in the hospital with an overnight stay. During the 1-3 hour surgery, your surgeon will meticulously work to remove the excess skin and fat that’s causing you grief. In most cases, general anesthesia is used to keep you comfortable throughout the procedure.

Am I a Good Candidate for Upper Arm Lift?
If you’re bothered by excess skin and fat on the upper arms, a brachioplasty may be worth considering. The ideal candidate for an upper arm lift is a non-smoking adult who is in otherwise good general health both physically and mentally. You should have realistic expectations about the results you’ll be able to achieve as well as scar management.
In some cases, your plastic surgeon may suggest that liposuction be used alone or in conjunction with an arm lift to remove excess fat in the upper arms. At the time of your initial consultation, they’ll speak with you about all of your options in-depth so you can make an informed decision about what’s right for you.
