Breast Augmentation

Increase the Size and Enhance the Shape of Your Breasts at LPS!

A breast augmentation will increase the fullness of your breast, add projection, and improve the balance of breast to hip ratio. While in most cases an implant is used to add volume to the breasts, fat transfer procedures can also be used for patients seeking to only go up a cup size or two. The skilled surgeons at Longwood Plastic Surgery routinely perform breast enhancement procedures of all types.

How Does A Breast Augmentation Work?

During the consultation, your physician at Longwood Plastic Surgery will discuss your options for breast augmentation. The doctor will review the types of implants available, implant placement (above or below the pectoralis muscle), and projected volume. You will have an opportunity to see and feel different types of implants. You will be able to try on implant sizers to help determine a volume that you feel is ideal. Additionally, you will be able to use our 3D photography to simulate before and after pictures.

At Longwood Plastic Surgery, most of our patients who undergo breast augmentation do so in our very private, comfortable outpatient surgical suite. The procedure is done under general anesthesia, meaning you will be asleep for the entire procedure. Typically the procedure takes less than 1.5 hours, and you’ll be able to go home the same day.

Am I a Good Candidate for Breast Augmentation?

Remember that breast augmentation is a personal choice, and it is important that you are doing it for yourself and not someone else. Patient satisfaction is highest in patients who are self-motivated and have realistic expectations.

You may be a good fit for breast augmentation if:

Breast augmentation does not correct severely droopy breasts. Patients with breast droop may require a breast lift in addition to their breast augmentation. Breast augmentation and lift procedures are regularly performed in a single surgery for enhanced results and minimal downtime.

FAQ’s

Immediately following breast enhancement procedures, you’ll be able to see a significant improvement to the size and shape of your breasts. Post-surgical swelling may mask the final outcome of your procedure for several weeks. In most cases, an optimal outcome will appear in several weeks to several months as breasts settle into their new position.

The board-certified surgeons at LPS use the latest, most advanced surgical techniques to ensure an optimal outcome with a quick and easy recovery. You will leave our office in a comfortable surgical bra, without drains and will be able to shower in 48 hrs.

Postoperatively, we usually limit aggressive physical activity for 2 weeks though most patients return to work in a few days. Your surgeon will help customize a recovery plan based on your specific procedure and lifestyle.

Subfascial breast augmentation places the implant beneath the thin but supportive fascia that covers the pectoralis major muscle. This layer provides a natural barrier over the implant without requiring surgeons to lift or dissect the muscle itself.

The technique has become increasingly popular because it blends the advantages of both subglandular and submuscular placements. Patients often appreciate the balance between natural movement, stability, and a more comfortable early recovery.

At Longwood Plastic Surgery, your surgeon will evaluate your anatomy, goals, and lifestyle to determine whether subfascial placement is the best option.

Subfascial placement offers several benefits that appeal to many individuals today.

  • More Natural Contour
The fascia adds subtle coverage to help soften implant edges and promote a smooth, natural upper pole.
  • Less Muscle Disruption
Because the muscle remains intact, patients generally report less postoperative tightness and a more comfortable return to daily activity.
  • Reduced Animation Deformity
Animation deformity, or implant movement during chest muscle engagement, is less likely with a subfascial technique.
  • Stable and Predictable Implant Position
The fascia acts as a supportive layer that helps maintain implant placement over time.

Breast implants do not have an expiration date, but they are not considered lifetime devices. Many people enjoy long-lasting results for well over a decade, while others may decide to update or remove their implants sooner.

Longwood Plastic Surgery provides expert care for implant removal and, if desired, implant replacement. Whether someone wants to change size, switch implant types, or remove implants entirely, the surgical team can tailor the approach to match individual goals.

Routine follow-up with your surgeon and appropriate imaging helps monitor implant integrity over time.

Both implant types can achieve beautiful results, but their construction and feel differ.

  • Saline Implants
These implants are filled with sterile saltwater after placement. They typically require a smaller incision and allow minor size adjustments during surgery. If a rupture occurs, the saline is safely absorbed by the body, and the implant visibly deflates.
  • Silicone Implants
Silicone implants come pre-filled with a cohesive silicone gel that closely mimics the softness of natural breast tissue. They tend to provide the most natural feel. Because silicone implants do not visibly deflate, routine imaging is recommended to confirm implant integrity.

Your surgeon at Longwood Plastic Surgery will help determine which implant type best suits your anatomy, lifestyle, and preferences.

Incisions are placed thoughtfully to minimize visibility while allowing the best access and precision for implant placement. Most breast augmentation procedures use one of the following incision locations:

  • Inframammary incision along the natural crease under the breast.
  • Periareolar incision at the border of the areola, which helps camouflage the incision line.

Scars typically fade significantly over time with proper care. Longwood Plastic Surgery uses refined techniques and provides detailed aftercare guidance that supports optimal scar healing.
