Botox® vs. Xeomin® vs. Jeuveau®: Which Injectable is Right for You?
Neuromodulators have become a trusted solution for smoothing fine lines and wrinkles, especially in the upper face. Among the most popular options are Botox®, Xeomin®, and Jeuveau®—three FDA-approved injectables that work similarly but have unique characteristics. Choosing the right one depends on your goals, preferences, and how your body responds to treatment.

What are Botox®, Xeomin®, and Jeuveau®?
Each of these injectables uses botulinum toxin type A to relax specific facial muscles temporarily, reducing the appearance of dynamic wrinkles like crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead creases.
Botox® has long been the most recognized neuromodulator on the market. It has a proven track record and is often used to treat not only cosmetic concerns but also medical conditions like migraines and excessive sweating. Botox® includes protective proteins that surround the active toxin, which can influence how the body responds over time.
Xeomin® is often referred to as the “naked injectable.” It contains only the active botulinum toxin without any additives or accessory proteins. This pure-form product may reduce the risk of developing antibodies that can make treatments less effective over time.
Jeuveau®, sometimes called “Newtox,” is the newest of the three and was developed specifically for aesthetic use. Its modern manufacturing process is designed for precision, and some people find that Jeuveau® takes effect a bit faster or lasts longer than alternatives, though results vary.
All three are FDA-approved and considered safe when administered by a qualified professional.
Botox® vs. Xeomin® vs. Jeuveau®: Which Injectable is Right for You?
While these neuromodulators share a similar mechanism of action, subtle differences can help guide your choice.
Botox® is ideal if you’re new to injectables or prefer a tried-and-true option. Its versatility and long history of clinical success make it a go-to choice for many.
Xeomin® may be the better choice for those who prefer a cleaner formulation with no additives. If you’ve been using Botox® and feel it’s less effective over time, Xeomin® might offer a solution.
Jeuveau® is a strong contender if your focus is aesthetic and you want to try something new. Some users notice faster results than with other options.
At Longwood Plastic Surgery, our experienced providers take the time to understand your facial anatomy and goals before recommending the right injectable for you. Sometimes, it’s not about which product is best overall—it’s about which works best for your unique facial muscle movements and treatment history.
Is There Any Downtime After Botox® or Other Injectables?
One of the key benefits of neuromodulators is the minimal downtime. After treatment, you can typically resume normal activities immediately. Some people experience mild swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection sites, but these side effects usually resolve within a day or two.
To ensure the best results and minimize risk, avoid lying down, exercising, or touching the treated area for a few hours post-injection. You may start seeing changes within a few days, with full results appearing in about 5 to 14 days, depending on the product used.
Am I a Good Candidate for Botox®, Xeomin®, or Jeuveau®?
You may be a good candidate if you:
- Want to reduce the appearance of expression lines
- Have realistic expectations about the results
- Are in good general health
- Are not currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have no history of neuromuscular disorders
If you’re unsure which neuromodulator is right for you, a consultation at Longwood Plastic Surgery is the best first step. Our team will assess your concerns and tailor a plan that delivers smooth, natural-looking results without overcorrection.
